About

Hello! I'm Annaleise, Clinical Psychologist and Founder of The Birth Of Us.

I began my psychology career at the University of Wollongong, completing both my bachelor and masters degrees. During my studies I worked in research for Personality Disorders, where my focus was on early intervention in schools and supporting parents and families with complex mental health issues.

These days, my background in Personality Disorders usually comes in handy when I'm supporting my clients with tricky family dynamics! So if you think your in-laws might be narcissistic or you're dealing with emotionally immature parents, I've got you!

From there, I became Research Coordinator at Wollongong Infant Learning Lab (WILL), Early Start, where it felt less like work and more like hanging out with cute babies all day! I am still part of the lab in a student role where I am finalising my PhD studies on childbirth and Matrescence.

You're probably starting to notice a theme here: no matter what stage of life or career, supporting families was always at the heart of it all. I found my niche in perinatal psychology early on and most days it doesn't feel like work at all - long before becoming a mother myself, this work always felt authentic and very 'me'. We may have crossed paths during my time at Grand Pacific Health, Wollongong or at Gidget Foundation where I worked at both Shellharbour and Nowra.

I adore supporting families during this special, vulnerable, intimate season of life. To be a small part of your journey is an honour and privilege that I do not take lightly.

I work predominately from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) modality, incorporating Attachment and Family Systems Theory, and you will hear me talk a lot about Self-Compassion. I'm also trained in Circle Of Security (COS).

Most of the time, my life likely looks very similar to yours. I have two young children - so I'm more part-time psychologist, full-time mum. When I'm not working on The Birth Of Us, I'm grateful to soak up all the little glimmers that life on the beautiful South Coast has to offer.

  • When will you be opening referrals and taking bookings?
Much like pregnancy, our due date is approximate. At this stage, it will be February 2026, hopefully sooner. If you would like to stay up to date, please sign-up to our mailing list.
  • I need support sooner, where can I go?
Firstly, I'm so glad you are here. This first step is often the hardest - the rest will feel like a weight off your shoulders. We recommend booking an appointment with your GP to chat. Your GP will already be familiar with psychologists in the area to refer to and can support you with exploring options. They can also explain what a Mental Health Care Plan is and any Medicare rebates that you may be eligible for. If you are seeking perinatal support, Gidget Foundation and Mums Matter are two wonderful, bulk-billing options, that your GP can refer you to. If you need a friendly ear to talk to in the meantime: - PANDA 1300 726 306 - Lifeline 13 11 14 - ForWhen 1300 24 23 22 - Mental Health Line 1800 011 511 - If an emergency, please call 000
  • What is your referral criteria?
We provide specialised perinatal support for: - 18+ years of age - Perinatal period: pregnancy to postpartum (no limit on age of child) - Depression, anxiety, CPTSD - Pregnancy and infancy loss, grief - Fertility issues, family planning - Birth trauma - Relationship difficulties, family dynamics - Matrescence: supporting women on their journey of ‘becoming’ a mother - Fathers: our service is not limited to mothers! This is just a snippet of what we work with. If you are unsure if we'd make a good fit or are a health professional wishing to refer, please contact us at thebirthofuspsychology@gmail.com
  • How much does therapy cost?
The Australian Psychological Society (APS) National Schedule of Suggested Fees 2024-2025 has the standard 46 to 60-minute consultation fee at $311. Please note that we are not a bulk-billing service. However, if you have a current Mental Health Care Plan, you will receive a medicare rebate of $145.25 per session, up to 10 sessions per calendar year. Our fees will be confirmed closer to our referral opening date.
  • Can my partner or baby attend?
Yes! As a perinatal psychologist, I’m always holding the whole family in mind. So even better if I get to speak and see the family directly! It is part of my standard practice to invite partners in for at least one session, if it is in line with your needs. Babies and young children are always welcome. I’ve seen and experienced it all! The sessions may not feel as productive on your end, but they are productive and insightful in a different way. On the other hand, I of course understand if this is not what you are after. Therapy is your safe sacred space, and if you want to keep it that way and make it your alone time, I will follow your lead.

Living, working and raising my children on Dharawal Country. In our work supporting mothers, we hold in our heart the mothers who had their babies stolen and the ongoing impact this has today. Always was, always will be, Aboriginal Land.

The Birth Of Us honours those lost to mental illness and their grieving families. We endeavour to live a life in their name with gratitude, joy and most importantly, hope.
